Planning : Lighting

Introduction

Lightning is a vital element when coming to the production of the scene. The lightning will be especially important when coming to taking photographs for our Digipacks and magazine advertisement.  When coming to film our music video we will be outside for the most of it, so will be natural lightning. For this to be effective we will have to plan out the timings in the day to get the right lightning ended. We will also take in consideration when filming the fire scene, that we need to have the correct lightning around in the scene to make the contrast between the two effective.

Photographs:

Here is some photographs we have taken while our teacher shows us the whole layout and each equipment we could use to get the best quality lighting in our Digipacks, any photographs we take and footage.

PRACTICING-(BEHIND THE SCENE)

Here are some photograpths of me and Mea practicing with the equitment  we have been introduced to. We have photographed our casted actors to see how they perform infrotn of the camera without lip-syncing as well as some other volunteers.

Setting up the backdrop

As you can see the backdrop was to creased and dirty, we would use a steamer to iron out the creases
or a plain white wall for the background.

Here we are setting up the light equipments.

Here me is placing the red covered
sheet onto the base light.

This was the final outcome after me and
Mea placed and settled all the equipment up.
Here are a few behind the scene photographs
that me and Mea are capturing of Julia, a volunteer.

We moved the standard base lights towards
Marvin to create a more intense  photograph and then carried on using this technique.

Here is also some behind the scenes photographs of me and Mea
photographing one of our casted actors for our music video. This helped us see how Ophelia would act for photographs not just film.

We also tested out all the coloured sheets available however
the only successful sheet was the red and sometimes the yellow depending on the amount of light visable.

PRACTICING- (PHOTOGRAPHS)

Here are the after shots from the practice photoshoot me and Mea set up.

This is a close up of Julia's face by only using
the two soft box lighting within a long distance.
This created a darken affect on the higher levelled features of her face.

We then zoomed into her face even more.
We moved one of the soft box lights in front of her face as well as using the red sheet to cover a studio strobe lighing  that was also place in front of her face. This created a vibrant portrait photograph while making the focus point on her eyes.

Here we zoomed in even more only showing her eyes and nose.
We moved the red lighted strobe light to the right of her face and then the soft box lights to the left of her face, making her face half normal and half red. This was a clever way of creating a good/evil looking photograph.

We then turned off the red light making  Julia look worried and frightened. We placed the soft box lights on each side of her face however we directed the light to the back sides of her face which helped created this darken depth and petrified face.

This picture however looks more happy and lightened.
We change this affect by moving the direction of the light towards her face.
We then asked Marvin to be photographed to see if the hight would
change the way the photographed looked with the soft box lights standing next to him instead of Julia and Ophelia.
Here we added the yellow coloured sheet to the K 180A studio strobe lighting
which made Marvin's face more happy and joyful. This also makes his eyes the focus point of the photograph without using an extreme close up shot.

We changed the yellow coloured sheet to blue and as you can see
the blue wasn't as vibrant as the yellow, however it did give marvin's eyes a sincere look.
Here me and Mea photographed Ophelia (one of are casted actors).
We have positioned her side by side the soft box lighting with and without the red sheeting light. Its is clear that Ophelia has enough confidence in front of the camera yet again making her a good person to photograph and film.

We zoomed into a extreme close up of Ophelia's top half of her face and bottom half while using the red covered strobe lighting. This was a perfect colour on Ophelia's face as it compliments her features. We may use this technique in our music video, Magazine and/or CD Digipack.

Here we took away the red lighting and only used the soft box lightings. This created a more subtle and soft image which would be good for some parts of the music video. Her natural features are more prominent in these photographs which might be a better look for the genre of music our video, Magazine and CD Digipack is.

Videos:

Here is some videos we found on youtube that helped expand our knowledge on how lighting works and on how to create more affective photographs as well as film.

CONCLUSION

Over all the practicing of the lighting helped me and Mea alot as we now have more knowledge on the lighting as well as having a more clear idea on how we could use lighting in our music video, Magazine and CD Digipack.
