Planning : Costume

COSTUME

Introduction

Costume is a very important part of pre-production in any film related situation and there is a lot to consider:

  1. The costume has to appeal to our target audience- the demographic for Matt Corby's music is late teens, early adults. The type of clothes warn wont appeal as much to these target audience because listeners to these types of songs tend to focus on the vocals and music instead of the visual elements.
  2. It has to be affordable - however there are many costumes we would like to use in our music video that we might already have purchased.
  3. The costume has to keep with the genre for music and aesthetical features in the music video; for example, if I dressed the actors in vibrant and strange outfits, it wouldn't match with the theme of the song or the different objects featured in the music video.

During the scenes where my actor is acting and performing in front of the different locations, me and Mea will have to keep the costumes the same thought-out the music video to keep the viewers concentrated on the different locations not the actors costume.

Costume Number 1:

For the first costume me and Mea have gone for a plain and dirty aesthetics to connect with the affects of the outside. This consists of a tea/tie died coloured t shirt, black jeans with black boots.

TOP

Here is a tea coloured top in a woman size for £2.99.
This is the cheapest price we have found for this styled top that we found on Amazon.

I could not find any other shop that sold this clothing item and within a suitable price range.

JEANS

The actors already have black jeans so there would be no need for us to purchase new ones for this video, however the jeans will get dirty but they can easily be washed and no need to be replaced.

BOOTS

The same with boots, me and Mea both know that our actors each have black boots that are perfect for the locations as well as the genre of music.

The best type of boots are Dr martins which the actor have already purchased.
Me and Hannah will included Black Dr martins
with every costume idea as it meets the points set.

Costume Number 2:

The second outfit we have chosen is also plain but with more features attached.

This costume will included woman granddad top, ripped jeans and Dr martins.

TOP

This top is used mostly in indie genre
music videos as it is a chilled and simple looking top. It will also give the actors a lumberjack look which will connect to the wooden
locations.

This top is from La Redoute and cost £11.90
which was the cheapest priced granddad top we found.

Another option was a black coloured granddad top from Amazon which cost £14-£16.

JEANS

We have gone for a ripped featured jeans to give the actor a look of roughness which will match with the song lyrics and
locations set.

The cheapest priced ripped jeans we found were from EBay, priced at £11.99. The price might be cheap however the quality of the jeans will be poor so we would buy the jeans from a different store.

The other shop we found was Topshop.

These pair of ripped jeans were from Topshop and cost £20 which is more than the jeans from EBay.
The colour and placed rips suitably
 suit the top and boots
while also showing a rough and distressed aesthetics.

BOOTS

The costume will  include black Dr martins boots
as it is the most suitable type of shoes that match the costume, character, scenes as well as appealing to the target audience.

Costume Number 3:

The last style me and Mea have chosen is a t shirt with some sort of nature design, blue jeans and Dr martins boots.

TOP

We have gone for a flowered styled top that will softly match with the natured scenery in the music video. This will also appeal to the target audience while matching with the genre of music.

Here is a black top that is lightly covered in flowers.
The top is from New Look for £9 which is a reasonable priced considering the silk material. These colours would nicely match the jeans and boots.

This is another flowered top also from M&S
that would look aesthetically pleasing in the music video however,
the pattern is to large and the price is to high.

JEANS

Here we found high waist blue jeans for £15.50 from Asos, this was the cheapest pair of jeans we could find which is more expensive then the cheapest pair of black jeans we found. This may result in us choosing the black jeans even if we chose this costume design.

The other jeans we found for a reasonable price was from M&S for £22.50

This is a high price however it is one of the cheapest pair of jeans we found
that offered good quality and features.
The reason for choosing blue jeans was because of the simple and elegant colour which will gently match the colour pallet being used in the
locations and the objects being used.

BOOTS

This costume will also include black Dr martins boots which will perfectly match the other clothing as well as the
location scenery.

Final Costume:

Out of the three costume design me and Mea have chosen idea number 2.

The reason for this was the simplicity of the clothes but also including subtle features. The coloured and design of the clothes will gentle complement the scenery in the music video while also suiting the actors.

This design will also not distracted the viewer from the song it self and the more important footage shown in the music video.
